Privacy policy
SimpleFlight, by Digitier, LLC · Effective 20 September 2026
SimpleFlight is made by Digitier, LLC, Riverside, California. This policy covers the SimpleFlight app for iPhone and iPad and the simpleflight.app website. We wrote it to be read.
The short version
- You can use SimpleFlight without an account. Without one, your airplanes, flight plans and settings stay on your device and we never receive them.
- If you create a SimpleFlight account, we collect your email address and the flight information you save to it, described below. Creating an account is your choice, and you can delete it and its data at any time.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We never sell or share information that identifies you or your aircraft, including your email, tail number, location or individual flight plans.
- We may use flight information in aggregated, de-identified form, such as how many plans are made to an airport in a month, to improve the app and in products or reports we offer commercially. Those statistics cannot be traced to a pilot or an aircraft.
- No ads, no advertising trackers, no third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
Using the app without an account
Your airplane profiles (type, tail number, speeds, fuel), your flight plans and recents, your home airport and your settings are stored on your device by the app. Digitier has no server that receives them.
Location. If you allow it, the app uses your location to show where you are on the map and to offer it as a starting point. It is used on the device. It is not sent to Digitier.
Data the app fetches. To show weather, airspace restrictions and maps, the app requests public data directly from the services below. Those requests contain the area or stations you are looking at and, as with any internet request, your IP address. They do not contain your name, email, tail number or a device identifier from us. Each service handles requests under its own policy.
| Service | What the app asks for |
|---|---|
| Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov, NOAA) | METARs, TAFs, winds aloft, SIGMETs, G-AIRMETs and PIREPs for stations and areas |
| FAA (tfr.faa.gov) | The list of current TFRs and the text of ones you open |
| Iowa Environmental Mesonet | Radar and satellite map tiles for the area on screen |
| Open-Meteo | Model winds for a grid of points covering the area on screen |
| Apple Maps | Base map tiles, under Apple's privacy policy |
Airport, runway, frequency, navaid and Class B, C and D airspace data ship inside the app and need no request at all.
Sharing a plan. When you share a flight plan, for example to Garmin Pilot, you choose the destination and iOS hands the file to it. What that app does with the file is governed by its own policy.
SimpleFlight accounts
Accounts are optional and are being introduced so that your airplanes and plans can follow you between devices, and so we can build features that depend on a history of flights. This section applies only if you create one. The app will ask for your agreement before any of this information leaves your device.
| What we collect | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in, recover your account, send service messages, and, only if you opt in, product news. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. |
| Flight information you save: departure, destination and waypoints, planned date and time, cruise altitude, distance, time and fuel figures, and the airplane profile used (type, tail number if you entered one, speeds, fuel burn and capacity) | To sync and back up your plans, show your history, and provide features built on it. In aggregated, de-identified form, to improve the app and for the statistics described above. |
| Home airport and app settings | To restore your setup on a new device. |
| Basic technical data: app version, device model, iOS version, IP address, timestamps, and crash or error reports | To run the service, keep it secure, and fix problems. |
What we do not collect. We do not record your GPS track or follow your position in flight. We do not collect your contacts, photos, advertising identifier, or pilot certificate or medical details. A planned flight is a plan; we do not know whether or how it was flown.
Subscriptions. If SimpleFlight offers paid features, purchases are handled by Apple. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active, not your payment details.
How we use aggregated information
Before flight information is used for statistics, we remove your email, account identifier, tail number, exact times and anything else that points to a person or an aircraft, and we combine it with other pilots' data. We do not publish or provide a figure drawn from so few pilots or aircraft that one could be picked out. We may use, share or sell these aggregated statistics, for example general aviation activity trends by airport or region. We will not attempt to re-identify them and we require the same of anyone who receives them.
Who we share personal information with
- Service providers that host and operate the service for us, such as our cloud hosting provider (DigitalOcean) and an email delivery provider, under contracts that limit them to acting on our instructions.
- Authorities, when we are legally required to, and only what is required.
- A successor, if SimpleFlight or Digitier is acquired or merged. This policy continues to apply to your information, and you will be told before a different policy applies.
That is the whole list. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have not done either in the past twelve months.
The website
When you join the early-access list we record your email address, your home airport if you give it, the time, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string so we can tell real signups from automated ones. We use it to email you when the beta opens and at launch, and to answer if you write to us. The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
Keeping and deleting
Account data is kept while your account is open. You can delete your account from inside the app; that deletes your email, saved flight information and airplane profiles from our systems within 30 days, apart from backups that expire on their own schedule and records we are legally required to keep. Aggregated statistics already produced are not affected because they no longer relate to you. Early-access emails are deleted when you ask, or after launch once the list has served its purpose.
Your choices and rights
- Use the app with no account. Turn off location access in iOS Settings at any time.
- See, correct, export or delete the information in your account, in the app or by writing to us.
- Unsubscribe from marketing email with one click, or never opt in.
- If you live in California or another state or country with a privacy law, you have the right to know what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, and not to be treated differently for asking. We will answer within 45 days. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Account data is stored with a provider in the United States, with access limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Children
SimpleFlight is a tool for pilots and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and its effective date, and for a material change we will tell account holders in the app or by email before it takes effect.
